Now that you have had the chance to research and read more about PIPA and SOPA I want you to share your ideas here.

Tell us exactly what you knew about PIPA before your research. Tell us how you thought your online life might change based on what you previously thought about PIPA.

Tell us exactly what you knew about SOPA before your research. Tell us how you thought your online life might change based on what you previously thought about SOPA.

After researching and reading about SOPA and PIPA tell us what the facts of the proposed bills are. Be as specific as you can about both SOPA and PIPA.

Before doing research on SOPA and PIPA I did not even know what they were about. I only heard opinions from others who said that the government was trying to censor the Internet and that many of our favorite sites would be shut down. When I heard this I thought that because of PIPA and SOPA I wouldn’t be able to just use Google and get millions of search results anymore, and that I would not be able to use YouTube anymore. After researching these bills, I have realized that the government is not trying to censor the Internet, but just trying to catch those who pirate music and other intellectual property, mainly the foreign based websites. I also learned that websites could be blocked to the public if infringement is taking place, and that the bills PIPA and SOFA can not immediately shut down websites. Also these bills are not overly dramatic because it is already illegal to pirate intellectual property, so really these bills are only more reinforcement, especially against foreign-based websites.

Before I did any research on SOPA and PIPA, I really didn't know anything about it. I knew it involved the internet and the safety of it but that's it. After doing some research on it I had no idea it involved shutting down websites that we use on a daily basis. I saw things about shutting down YouTube, Google, Wikipedia, and many others. Then I realized that they didn't plan on shutting them down, they just wanted to stop the people that were uploading and pirating illegal videos, music, ect.

Honestly, I thought SOPA & PIPA were the same thing just with different names before I researched the actual facts about them both. When I found out about them I thought that I was no longer going to be able to access Twitter and Youtube because they were going to shut them down. Now that I did my research project I know that SOPA deals with the copyright of foreign websites specifically promoting copyright and PIPA works to take down websites that specifically promote music, TV shows, and movies without payment.

Before the research and the newsletter I created, I really had never heard of either SOPA or PIPA. I started hearing stuff about it the other day and I saw ads saying the internet was being censored and some top websites were being cancelled. Now I know the SOPA and PIPA can cut blogs and other personal things disobeying copyright. The SOPA is dealing with copyrights of foreign websites and PIPA takes down websites dealing with music without payments.

Before creating the flyer I had heard about SOPA and PIPA but didn’t really know what they were or what they were about. Life would definitely change if these laws were passed. No more Google, Wikipedia, or almost anything. Some facts include that this was mostly proposed for law makers and judges to be able to get the information needed when dealing with a case. Another purpose was anti- piracy so no more stealing and copying information from others intellectual property.

Before I did the research on SOPA and PIPA I though that they were laws trying to destroy my favorite websites such as YouTube and Wikipedia. But then into researching, I found out that it could actually destroy the websites.

Before we researched PIPA and SOPA, I knew absolutely nothing about those subjects. After we did the research, I understood that these Acts were made to minimize the amount of piracy on the internet and that they are not to destroy all of the fun websites.

SOPA and PIPA are a huge topic in the world today, and I was constantly frustrated when people would talk about them because I really had no idea what they were. People would constantly say that they were censoring the internet but they also have to do with protecting people’s music, movie, or other files. I think I would go crazy if there was no Google, Youtube, or Wikipedia.

  9. Before Researching the SOPA and PIPA acts I didn’t know what either of them were, now know that SOPA is an acronym for Stop Online Piracy Act. And PIPA is an acronym for Protect Intellectual Property Act. Everybody made a big deal about Facebook, Google and Wikipedia all being shut down, but I believe that they were just trying to protect the companies that supplied movies and music, because everyone keeps downloading them for free.

Before Researching the SOPA and PIPA Acts I thought that they were put on the web to shut down some of my favorite websites such as Facebook, Google, Yahoo, etc. But through my research I found out that they putting these acts out to protect the music the specific companies supply to us on the web.

Before I researched SOPA and PIPA, I had no idea that they even existed. I never heard of them before. SOPA stands for Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA is Protect Intellectual Property Act. They are both acts to stop piracy and stealing of information, both domestic and foreign. I learned that they could actually shut down really great websites that we use daily on the Internet.

  13. Before I researched PIPA and SOPA, I had no idea what they were. I’ve heard of them and from what people were telling me, I thought they would be shutting down all the popular sites, such as Facebook, AOL, Yahoo, Google, Twitter, and a lot of other sites.

  14. Before I researched SOPA and PIPA I had only heard about SOPA. It was mention on the news and sounded to be such a bad thing, but I had no idea what it was. Though PIPA I had never herd a thing about before. After I research I learn that SOPA was a plan used to help get rid of piracy and PIPA was a compromise or what SOPA was because SOPA was getting such a bad rep.

Before researching about PIPA, I thought that the only purpose of it was to stop all social and entertaining websites like YouTube, Google, and Facebook to shut down. After doing the reasearch, I realized that this law was only for the government to monitor and control the websites that may have foriegn content on it. I also thought that SOPA was the same as PIPA, but both laws are slightly different from each other. SOPA was the more inportant law and that was the law that was getting the most blame for all the rumors spreading about it. SOPA's hopes is only to stop online piracy.
